Equality and Diversity
We live in a culturally diverse society and come into contact with people from all sorts of different backgrounds. This online Equality and Diversity course can help pupils to understand policies and legislation relating to equality and diversity and enable them to develop personally and professionally, in preparation for future employment. To achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity, learners need to complete all three mandatory Units:
Unit one: Explore equality and diversity
Unit two: Explore prejudice and discrimination
Unit three: Explore people's rights and responsibilities
Course details
In this course, learners will need to work through all 3 Units to achieve the Certificate.

Unit one: Explore equality and diversity
- The meaning and importance of diversity
- Which individual and social characteristics form the basis of diversity
- How different beliefs and value systems contribute to diversity
- Why fostering diversity is important in the workplace
- The meaning of equality today and why it's important
- What is meant by equal opportunities in society and in the workplace
- How equal opportunities are promoted in the workplace
Unit two: Explore prejudice and discrimination
- The difference between prejudice and discrimination
- The basis of social and individual prejudice and discrimination
- How to recognise prejudicial and discriminatory behaviour and practices
- The law relating to anti–discrimination
- How anti–discrimination can be fostered in the workplace
Unit three: Explore people's rights and responsibilities
- How the law upholds equal opportunities
- The rights and responsibilities of individuals in relation to anti-discrimination laws
- How workforces or organisations can enforce laws relating to equal opportunities
- Why tension can occur between the rights of individuals and the responsibility of a company or institution
- Why conflict can occur between individuals exercising their rights and how to establish priorities
- What can be done to overcome bad practice in the workplace
How long does it take?
Equality and Diversity is designed as a 120–hour course. Pupils can study flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Course delivery and assessment
The course is offered online with vision2learn – an innovative web–based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. The online course contains all of the learning content needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course, as well as activities to enable your pupils to practise their skills and test their learning receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the qualification
Studying Equality and Diversity leads to the accredited qualification NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity, which helps your pupils to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of this subject. In order to successfully achieve the qualification your pupils will need to complete a series of assessments as they work through each unit of the course, which they’ll send to you through the v-mail system on vision2learn. You will assess these and they will build up to form each pupil’s portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for all three units.
The computer kit you’ll need
As this is an online course, you will need access to:
- An Internet enabled PC running MS Windows and Internet Explorer 5 (or later), or Netscape 6 (or later), with JavaScript and cookies enabled
- Email software and an active e-mail account
- Microsoft Word or similar word processing package
- Download Flash player
- Download Adobe Acrobat.
