Course details
In this course pupils will study two units.
Unit one: Understand and apply principles of training
- In this unit learners will find out what fitness is and how it is achieved, and also consider the roles played by diet and the body’s systems. They will learn how to measure their current fitness and then plan an appropriate exercise programme.
Unit two: Exercising safely
- In this unit learners will find out about the safety factors relating to exercise activities, carry out safety checks on their exercise environment and find out how to select the appropriate clothing and footwear. They will also discover how to avoid potentially damaging exercises.
How long does it take?
Healthy Living is a 90 hour course. Pupils can study flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Course delivery and assessment
The course is offered online with vision2learn – an innovative web-based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. The online course contains all of the learning content needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course, as well as activities to enable your pupils to practise their skills and test their learning receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the qualification
Studying Healthy Living leads to the accredited qualification NCFE Foundation Certificate in Exercise Studies. In order to successfully achieve your qualification you will need to complete a series of assessments as you work through both units of the course, which you’ll send to your tutor through the v-mail system on vision2learn. Your tutor will assess these and they will build up to form your portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for both units.
The computer kit you’ll need
As this is an online course, you will need access to:
- An Internet enabled PC running MS Windows and Internet Explorer 5 (or later), or Netscape 6 (or later), with JavaScript and cookies enabled
- Email software and an active e-mail account
- Microsoft Word or similar word processing package
- Download Flash player
- Download Adobe Acrobat.
