Money Management
Many people find it difficult to manage their money, and they often run up debts, which cause financial problems and considerable personal difficulties. Working through this course helps pupils to learn how to manage their money more effectively, including making significant purchases and investigating savings and investments.
To achieve the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Personal Money Management, learners need to complete all three mandatory Units:
Unit one: Identify Personal Finances
Unit two: Managing your Own Money
Unit three: Planning your Money for a Significant

Course details
In this course, learners will need to work through all 3 Units to achieve the Certificate.
Here's a taste of what they will cover:
Unit one: Identify personal finances
- Recording income and expenditure
- Saving money
- The importance of money management
- Avoiding debt.
Unit two: Managing your own money
- Bank accounts and statements
- Understanding pay slips
- The benefits of saving.
Unit three: Planning your money for a significant expenditure
- Understanding the term ‘significant expenditure’
- The costs involved in making a significant purchase
- Making purchasing decisions
- Exploring insurance options.
How long does it take?
Money Management is designed as a 30-hour course. Pupils can study flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Course delivery and assessment
The course is offered online with vision2learn – an innovative web-based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. The online course contains all of the learning content needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course, as well as activities to enable your pupils to practise their skills and test their learning receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the qualification
Studying Money Management leads to the accredited qualification NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Personal Money Management, which helps your pupils to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of this subject.
In order to successfully achieve the qualification your pupils will need to complete a series of assessments as they work through each unit of the course, which they’ll send to you through the v-mail system on vision2learn. You will assess these and they will build up to form each pupil’s portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for all three units.
The computer kit you'll need
- An Internet enabled PC running MS Windows and Internet Explorer 5 (or later), or Netscape 6 (or later), with JavaScript and cookies enabled
- Email software and an active email account
- Microsoft Word or similar word processing package
- Microsoft Access or similar database package
- Download Adobe Acrobat.
