The Edexcel WorkSkills Suite delivered on vision2learn for schools consists of 10 units at Level 2. Your learners can build a Level 2 BTEC Award or Certificate in WorkSkills.

WorkSkills helps 14-19 year-olds to develop practical, work-related skills to give them a real head-start to finding and keeping a job. This personalised approach to developing ‘work-ready’ skills is effective for all kinds of learners.

Learners can gain accreditation for skills you may already be teaching in PSHE.

Building Working Relationships with Colleagues

This unit explores the ways in which colleagues rely upon one another in a constructive working environment. Learners will also consider the consequences of positive and negative behaviours of individuals on whole teams or organisations. A key focus is to help learners develop some of the most important behaviours necessary for colleagues to interact effectively.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand how people in the workplace depend on one another
Understand how an individual’s behaviour affects other people at work
Be able to demonstrate positive behaviours that promote effective working with others.

Working in a Team

The ability to work successfully in a team is a key workplace skill. By taking part in a team task, learners will gain the skills to work in a team and understand the different skills and attributes that are necessary for successful team work.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand the advantages and disadvantages of taking part in a team task
Understand the need for a team to work to an agreed code of conduct
Be able to recognise the skills, strengths and experience that others bring to a team task
Understand how to allocate roles and responsibilities when undertaking a team task
Reflect on the performance of a team identifying successes and weaknesses.

Practising Leadership Skills with Others

Working with others provides invaluable opportunities for learning how to lead. In this unit, learners will practice their skills with other members of a group. In addition to developing the learner’s leadership skills through working with others, the unit also considers how learners can evaluate their ability to lead others.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand how to lead a group activity
Demonstrate effective leadership skills with others
Evaluate their leadership performance.

Self-Management Skills

Employees need to be able to manage themselves in the workplace in order to make a positive contribution at work. The ability to successfully manage your own time and workloads is a key employability skill.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand the importance and the benefits of managing themselves effectively at work
Demonstrate effective self management skills by prioritising workloads and planning their time to maximise their efficiency
Carry out an analysis of their self management skills and identify any areas for improvement.

Career Progression

This unit will help learners to identify relevant opportunities for career development that are matched to their experience, skills and aspirations. The emphasis of the unit is for the learner to evaluate potential employment opportunities in terms of their relevance to ongoing career development.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand that personal skills, qualities and experience influence career progression
Access information and guidance on career progression and development
Understand the importance of work and study opportunities to career progression
Be able to plan their own career progression.

Learning from More Experienced People

People learn and develop by interacting with others who are more experienced in a particular field of work or study, such as visiting experts or senior colleagues. In this unit, learners will identify what they have learned from senior or more experienced people and put these skills into practice for themselves.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand situations where they might interact with more experienced people
Understand how more experienced people work effectively
Understand how they can improve their performance by learning from those who have more experience
Review what they have learned from more experienced people.

Searching for a Job

This unit will help learners to identify a range of potential sources of employment and equip them with the skills to match potential job roles to their own strengths and abilities.

Learners will be expected to:

Understand how to use potential job sources
Understand how their experience, skills and interests relate to potential job roles
Be able to investigate job vacancies.

Applying for a Job

This unit will equip learners with the skills to identify and apply for jobs that are matched to their abilities. The learner will know how to present information in an appropriate format depending on the type of application.

Learners will be expected to:

Be able to use different methods to apply for a job – online applications and written applications
Be able to prepare a job application with the appropriate information and in a suitable format
Reflect on the relevance of their application to the position.

Preparing for an Interview

This unit will equip learners with the skills to prepare for a successful interview. Learners will know how to anticipate an interviewer’s questions and prepare appropriate responses.

Learners will be expected to:

Anticipate key questions that they may be expected to answer at interview
Prepare appropriate responses to key questions
Know how to use information about the job / course to identify relevant questions to ask their interviewer.

Interview Skills

This unit will help learners to develop the skills to undertake a successful interview. Learners will know how to conduct themselves at an interview and understand the importance of both verbal and non–verbal communication.

Learners will be expected to:

Present themselves appropriately at an interview
Be able to answer the interviewer’s questions successfully
Reflect on their own performance at interview.
